MASTER DI II LIVELLO
The museum is increasingly regarded as an educational tool of particular interest, not only for the elite public who traditionally frequent it, but also for the categories of visitors who are still excluded from it. In the field of cultural heritage, therefore, the need to make proposals that can meet the needs of different visitors, understood as categories of distinct audiences based on social, cultural and personal variables, is increasingly advancing.
Their characteristics must be studied in order to formulate programs that satisfy both their implicit and explicit cultural demands. The master is aimed at those who wish to deepen the theoretical references and know the technical instrumentation necessary to analyze the needs of the various categories of public who go to the museum, training on museum standards in the educational field according to the most recent results of international research in the sector. .
The contents and goals of the Course match with the professional profile of the Museum Educator as outlined by: the Charter of Museum Professions (ICOM, 2005; Museum professions – a European frame of reference, 2008) the Charter of the Museum Professions and Functions given the Reform of National Museums (ICOM, 2017).
The didactic activities, both face to face and remotely, are structured in a modular way that allows the students to recognize specific learning strategies and to memorize the contents; the wide presence of self-assessment supports and regularly consolidates learning.
The course is designed so that the students develop the capacity for personal promotion and know how to orient themselves in academic and professional contexts, participating in a technological and cultural advancement in society, in particular in the sector of the enhancement of cultural heritage.
Theoretical Didactic Units
In its remote part, the didactic plan of the Master includes the study of a series of theoretical units, drawn from the most important Italian and international literature. The courses have as objectives: the analysis of the characteristics of communication and cultural mediation within the museum; the interpretation of the museum as a tool for lifelong education; the mastery of an appropriate terminological set; the definition of the relationship between the main marketing functions as the organizational context of the museum’s educational function.
Research projects
Some research projects carried out by the Museum Education Center will be exhibited in the FADs, in order to show students the direct application of the knowledge learned: how to identify the characteristics of the target audience and how to organize an empirical survey.
Study and research seminars
The face-to-face meetings aim to introduce the techniques and IT tools for museum education, to provide the necessary information for the preparation of European projects and for the definition of a research project in the museum field.
Operational experimentation stage
During the exercise, the opportunity will be given to design structured teaching and educational proposals, consistent with the various types of museums, followed by an evaluation of the interventions.
Audiovisual Didactic Units
The goal of the activity is to recognize and analyze some communication strategies applicable during museum educational activities.
Documentary Didactic Units and Monthly Researches
The course includes the illustration of examples of the use of tools, data analysis and questionnaire processing, for an individual development of evaluation tools to be applied in the museum environment.
Internship
The internship, lasting a minimum of 3 weeks, will take place at a museum or at an Italian company. The teaching and research activities will be covered by the Master, while travel, board and lodging expenses will be borne by the participants.
During the operational experimentation internship, the participants will fine-tune the research hypothesis and submit it to verification for the drafting of the final research project. In this regard, students will also engage in the design and administration of survey tools, in data collection, as well as in the implementation of the knowledge and skills acquired during the training course.
The lectures will be delivered simultaneously in presence and in DL (Distance Learning – synchronous and asynchronous), also in streaming mode. The meetings with experts in the sector of the second year can be followed in the presence, within the headquarters of the Department of Education and Human Sciences of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia or the Department of Education of the Roma Tre University (a depending on the organization of the meeting), or remotely, through the Remote Training platform made available by the didactic office of the master. The way to use the lesson is, therefore, at the student’s choice.
Lectures, workshops, laboratories and distance learning activities are held by national and international experts.
